Guill’s New Technical Equipment Purchases - Expands Production Up to 20% --IRC 179 for 2008 accelerated tax savings helps spur company’s growth
January 16, 2009 — West Warwick, RI – Guill Tool & Engineering. Inc. has announced as of January 12, 2009 that their production expansion with new equipment purchased in 2008 is able to increase the output by up to 20% for larger dies in the 4 – 10 inch (10.16 cm – 25.4 cm) range as well as the required support tooling for customers.
Guill’s new equipment purchases have dramatically upgraded their expansion of the 33,000 square foot–headquarters facility. This includes a new CNC machine that reduces tools’ set-up plus the latest CAM and DNC software. Guill’s all state-of-the-art machine programs now in use are synchronized directly from models utilizing the latest 3D CAD and advanced flow analysis software (CFD).
With a new CNC machine the tool holding capacity increases significantly to deliver quicker, more efficient, and more flexible tooling. In addition to the 5-axis CNC milling machine, CNC lathe, and EDM machine, other new equipment includes a dual-column band saw for faster, more precise cutting coupled with the CNC hole-popper to enable the most exacting holes (as small as .010 inch) (0.254 mm) for EDM operations. The latter is especially necessary for miniature profile dies.
New CRIB vending machines have also been purchased to ensure a supply of disposable tooling is always closely located to where the Guill machinist is positioned. By using an automatic direct reorder system, the machinist is now able to order faster, more efficient tooling that speeds the production flow without any unnecessary delay for the usual manual entry of the tooling reorder.
According to Glen Guillemette, President of Guill, “The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 assisted us and our customers in providing machinery and tooling at a special 50% bonus in depreciation for 2008. That’s the good news. The bad news is the U.S. Congress as of January 2009 has not extended the Act. It was a huge boost to the economy for small businesses without Congress being asked to contribute money or bail out any companies. He concludes, “This was strictly tax relief that helped manufacturers to produce more—a win-win situation for everybody.”
